BOOXITE / PAGINA
A manuscript passes through many hands before it becomes a book. BOOXITE brings authors, editors, production teams and production providers together on a shared platform, helping coordinate handovers and reduce repeated data transfers between stages.
With BOOXITE, pagina makes XML-based book production accessible particularly to small and medium-sized publishers. Its publishing-as-a-service approach provides a route into structured workflows without having to build a production platform in-house. XML provides the shared foundation for print and digital editions behind the scenes.
THE PRODUCTION PROCESS
After upload, the manuscript is analysed and converted to XML. Quality checks help identify structural errors early so they can be corrected before editing continues.
Authors and editors work on the text in the author portal using a Word-like editor. A typeset preview shows how the content will appear in the layout.
Automated typesetting uses configured design templates. The production team reviews the typeset pages and coordinates adjustments. Publisher-specific templates support the visual identity of each list.
Structured content supports print and EPUB output. The connected print portal links cost calculations for specifications and print runs with ordering and file delivery.
pagina brings publishing knowledge, XML technology and typesetting expertise together in BOOXITE. SiteFusion provides the foundation for content management and workflow-driven processes, while parsX supports XML-based book production. The Mediaprint Group supplies the print portal. Together, these capabilities connect editorial work, production and printing. Process design draws on the recommendations of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association’s Taskforce IT-Standards.
Standardised production stages leave room for distinctive books. Custom design templates and the option to involve preferred typesetting and print providers combine automation with publishing flexibility. A shared XML foundation supports reuse of your content beyond a single edition.
Together with SiteFusion, the project defines how structured content, media and approvals reach the typesetting stage. The choice of parsX, icefox and other tools follows the publication type and design requirements.
The Verlag SKV customer story illustrates the collaboration between SiteFusion, pagina and EBCONT on structured educational content and automated output.
